When the soccer World Cup is being held in South Africa I like to look at the last ten minutes of the first half and the last ten minutes or so of the second half, if I am at home. I enjoy watching soccer but I also have to be careful about the time I spend watching television. No way would I want to waste my life away watching too much television.
And of course, there are the highlights as well which are available at appropriate moments.
At the moment, in Scotland, there are three games per day being broadcast on television, but also each game is on BBC Radio as well and the radio commentaries can be just as good as viewing the match on television.
Writing as a disciple of Jesus Christ, when we read about the life and ministry of Jesus Christ we can tend to believe that what we are reading are selected highlights which the Gospel writers have chosen. But these are more than the highlights, although every scenario we read of is a highlight.
Everything Almighty God does is a highlight. All the preaching and teaching and miraculous acts are certainly highlights, and these are written down so that we might continue to believe. John mentions this to those who were already believers in Jesus.
John writes to men and women who were born again and John is seeking to encourage them to keep on believing because Jesus taught that it is he who is faithful to the end who will be saved.
The four Gospels is more than just a collection of the most exciting moments in the life of Jesus, although again we need to say that every moment in the life of Jesus is exciting and thrilling. The Gospels are written to help us all to remain faithful to God and the letters are written to teach us how to live and behave in the Church of Jesus Christ, and also how to deal with various problems and issues which arise in the lives of sinful men, even though they are saved by the grace of God.
The Gospels also tell us who Jesus Christ is. He is the Messiah, the Son of God and Jesus was anointed by God the Father with the Holy Spirit and during his ministry Jesus went about doing good. The book of Acts teaches us that, and the disciples sought to continue the ministry of Jesus, and this is part of our role and task today.
John also tells us right at the end of the book which bears his name, that Jesus did many other things as well and if every one of them were written down even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
This same risen and living Lord Jesus Christ is still working and moving in our world. Read His Word. Be faithful to Jesus to the very end. He will never disappoint you nor let you down.

If Everything He Did Were Written Down All the Books in the World Would Not Tell the Whole Story
